Senior Electrical Engineer (PE)
(80% Design / 20% Mentorship)
Location: Richmond or Virginia Beach, VA (Hybrid: 3 Days In-Office / 2 Days Remote)
Compensation: Up to $150,000 (Flexible for exceptional experience)
The Opportunity
Are you a Senior Electrical Engineer who loves the "craft" of engineering but finds yourself stuck in too many management meetings?
We are looking for a Lead Technical Engineer to join a stable, respected firm founded nearly 75 years ago. This role is specifically designed for the "Engineer’s Engineer"—someone who wants to spend 80% of their time focused on high-level design and technical execution, and 20% of their time mentoring the next generation of junior talent. We aren't looking for a department manager; we are looking for a technical leader who wants to stay "on the tools" while ensuring quality across the board.
What You’ll Do
-
Stay in the Design: Handle conceptual studies, design analyses, equipment selection, and full-scale electrical design for major municipal and educational projects.
-
Lead by Example: Mentor and monitor the professional development of junior staff through peer reviews and QC checks.
-
Project Diversity: No "studios" here—you’ll touch a varied mix of K-12 (65-70%), higher ed, municipal (libraries, fire/police stations), and multi-family housing projects.
-
Full Lifecycle Impact: From validating scope with clients to site visits and functional performance testing (FPTs), you will own the technical integrity of your projects.
What You Bring
-
The Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and an active Professional Engineer (PE) license (Virginia license or immediate reciprocity is required).
-
The Experience: 8+ years in the A/E or MEP consulting world, specifically with K-12, municipal, or government projects.
-
The Tech Stack: Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is essential for our state-of-the-art building projects.
-
The Mindset: A desire to be a high-level individual contributor and mentor rather than a traditional people manager.
Why Join This Team?
-
Hybrid Flexibility: Enjoy a 3/2 schedule that balances collaborative in-office time with the focus of working from home.
-
Stability: Since 1954, we’ve built a reputation for excellence in the Commonwealth of Virginia with leadership that averages 25+ years with the firm.
-
Benefits: Comprehensive package including company-paid medical insurance, dental/vision, 401(k), and a family-oriented culture that values social connection.
